Smt. Lakshmi Prabhakar started her initial training in Carnatic music from Smt. Rukmini Ramachandran, a graduate of Swati Tirunal College of Music, Trivandrum. For the past several years, she has been learning from Smt. Savitha Namuduri, an AIR artiste and student of Smt. Prema Ramamurthy (Hyderabad). A regular in the Atlanta music performing circle, Lakshmi has performed for several thematic concerts and Bharatanatyam arangetrams and enjoys teaching this art form as well.
Lakshmi is blessed to be accompanied by a distinguished team of artists. Sri V. Lakshminarayanan, a classical music connoisseur and vocal and violin artist, will accompany her on the violin. Sri V. Lakshminarayana started learning vocal music from Smt Vedavalli & Shri B. Krishnamurthy at the Music Academy at the age of six and then started learning violin from Shri Gottuvadyam Srinivasa Iyengar and then from Shri C.N.Chandrasekaran at fourteen. He later pursued advanced training from Shri B.R.C.Iyengar (Hyderabad), Dr.L.Subramaniam and Shri T.K.Govinda Rao and Shri R.K.Shriramkumar. He has accompanied many leading musicians in India and the USA. He is very passionate about listening, playing concerts and sharing his little learnings with one and all, particularly the next gen (www.sapasapasa.)
On the mridangam, Lakshmi will be accompanied by Sri Subra Viswanathan. Originally from Mumbai, Sri Subramaniam Viswanathan (Subra) learned to play mridangam from Trichy Sri Raghava Iyer at the Bharatiya Fine Arts school in Mumbai. He currently trains with Sri. Papanasam Kumar from Chennai. Subra also learned Carnatic music vocals from his father, Sri. N.S. Viswanathan. He has continued his vocal training in Atlanta, first with Ms. Sujata Rayburn, and currently with Sri. Salem Shriram. Over the years, Subra has performed as a mridangist, as well as a vocalist, in and around Atlanta. Subra has a degree in Operations Research from I.I.T Bombay, and an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University. He lives in Cumming with his wife, Latha, two sons, Prateek and Parth, both musicians, and their dog Jet.
